For the first time, driving felt almost like a delight, in between the otherworldly landscape, the vineyards protected by the volcanic rock formations, the sound of silence… There was a feeling of home when I arrived that felt surprisingly new. Most likely the salty air, the warm hospitality of the people and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks. Lanzarote stole my heart.
A few months prior, my friend Minna told me that she was going to the Canary Islands and, in need of a little adventure and creative inspiration, I jokingly asked if I could tag along.
When researching about the area, I immediately felt drawn to the history and the lifestyle of Lanzarote and we started to plan our trip right away.
It’s hard to explain how inspired I was in this land. Perhaps because it reminded me a lot about my adventures with my father.
Art, architecture and nature feel so closely connected here, the sure legacy of Cesar Manrique, a multidisciplinary artist and pioneer of ecologism, his perspective of the connection between man and nature permeated not only his art but also the worldview of people in Lanzarote.
It was specially this legacy, this connection, that inspired a beautiful elopement in the island that we will be sharing soon!
But back to the island for now… Lanzarote (the first destination in the world to receive the Biosphere Responsible Tourism certificate!) offers so many nuances, so many contrasts, so many possibilities to explore and feed the senses and your soul!
From awe inspiring natural parks and reserves, small towns with beautiful traditional architecture, intriguing artworks, surprising vineyards (that in itself is a work of art), pristine beaches, endless amounts of fresh seafood… every part feeded my soul!
During our week there we stayed in a beautiful small hotel, Casa Dominique , located in the northwest part of the island, on the bay of Famara, in a unique protected natural area where urbanisation is prohibited, so it gives you the perfect balance between privacy and comfort. I consider it to be a perfect venue for an intimate wedding!
Waking up here every morning with the expansive views of the sea and the sound of the waves and the birds was truly a delight.
From being there, experiencing a mouthwatering vegetarian menu and all the possibilities, I truly believe that Lanzarote is an incredible location for a destination wedding!
For those couples who love adventure and who have a profound respect for nature, this island is a perfect canvas to create a multi day, unforgettable intimate wedding experience. If this resonates with you and you would like to have an intimate destination wedding or elopement, get in contact with us! We would love to help you!
Oh and stay tuned! We will show you soon the elopement we had there and hopefully it will inspire you all your wanderlust wedding dreams!
Lanzarote, an up and coming wedding destination for eco-minded couples
